Our first product

Reusable fabric gift wrapping 100% recycable, 100% reusable

Love Project Workshop fabric gift wrapping

(R35-R45)
Made from:recycled fabric remnants, ribbon and buttons.
It is our first craft project and it will be available at the Love Project Gift Shop (55 Kloof street, Cape town)

Here is how you do it:
Wrap the gift with the fabric, secure it with the ribbon, pin the pretty button to the fabric and attach the card to it.
Afterwards:
- Reuse the fabric as a pretty tea cloth. A cleaning or drying cloth will also do!
- Reuse the ribbon for scrapbooking projects, use it to tie your daughter’s hair or twist it a few times around a bunch of flowers.
- Reuse the button as a fashionable brooch.
- Reuse the gift card by securing a new piece of cardboard and message to the back.

November news

THE FIRST NEEDLE CRAFT SESSION was conducted on 24 November.
Please meet our first two trainees:
- Leanne Esau. She is a mother of two girls, married to Owen
and lives in Athlone.
- Thandeka Mantshi. She is a single mother of two and lives in
Khayelitsha.
The day started with a study of Genesis 1, thanking God that He
made us in His image.
And as God is the Creator of all, He is also the source of all creativity
which is exactly what the craft- and handwork business is
all about!
They also learned four basic embroidery stitches and have to
practice at home during the week.
The sooner they master their new skill, the sooner they can start
producing projects to sell. The next training session is Tuesday 1
December.
PRAYER REQUEST
1. Please pray that the gift wrapping project will sell well. If so,
Leanne and Thandeka can start producing it early in the New Year
ensuring them an income.
2. In last months’ newsletter we asked for a volunteer to assist
the Scalabrini Centre in developing their small sewing centre.
Jemma Fanning, a fashion buyer from London, is interested in manufacturing a new
eco-fashion label with them. Please pray that the Lord will open doors of opportunity.
3. We are starting a craft workshop for Cape Town Baptist Church in January 2010
enabling them to also minister through job creation and skills training. Please pray
that the Lord will give us a brilliant creative concept.
Answerd prayers:
A printer-copier was sponsored and we are very grateful!
A special note of thanks to Habits Boutique for sponsoring beautiful fabric remnants.
They are in Cavendish Street in Claremont. www.habits.co.za.
OUR NEEDS
Sewing machines for Leanne and Thandeka and a PC or laptop.

October news

What we've been up to at The Love Project Workshop during October:
1. We have been meeting with various established community projects and NPO's including The Scalabrini Centre in Cape
Town (they offer welfare and development assistance to refugees, asylum seekers and immigrants in South African) and
Ubuntu Africa Child Care Centre in Khayelitsha (they care for children with HIV/Aids), discussing possible partnerships such as
helping to develop and grow the small sewing centre at The Scalabrini Centre and teaching embroidery- and other needle craft
skills to the unemployed mothers of the children at the child care centre.
2. We have been meeting with potential soft skill training volunteers.
3. We have also been collecting fabric remnants from sponsors to use in future creative projects.
Our needs:
Things
1. An old computer or laptop, a printer, a scanner and a copier.
2. Fabric remnants for future creative projects, and needle craft tools like scissors, needles, pins, yarns, wool, tape measure,
tracing wheel etc.
Volunteers
1. A fashion designer willing to assist with the development of Scalabrini’s sewing centre. They need current, up-to-date
designs to be able to sell and market their products sufficiently. It is a once off project.
2. An embroidery- and needle craft trainer. Training will be one morning a week for 4-6 weeks.
